The Hawaiian Airlines Platinum Visa® Card, issued by Bank of America, is designed for those with a very good credit history who travel frequently via Hawaiian Airlines.
Through the airline reward program, one mile is earned for every dollar spent on the card, which can be redeemed towards free travel on Hawaiian Airlines. Cardholders receive 10,000 bonus miles with the first purchase and an additional reward of 5,000 points will be awarded annually. There is a limit of 100,000 miles that can be earned per year; however; points do expire if the account is not active within a three-year period.
Aside from the reward program, cardholders can expect common benefits offered by Bank of America, such as up to $1,000,000 in travel accident insurance, total security protection, and zero liability on Internet purchases. In addition, cardholders receive a 50% discounted companion ticket with the purchase of a regular full-coach fare ticket plus applicable taxes, fees, and surcharges.
The interest rate for purchases and balance transfers is reasonably low for a reward card (for those who qualify), although not ideal for those who plan to carry a balance. A low introductory rate applies to purchases and balance transfers for six months and the annual fee is slightly lower than most platinum airline reward cards.
However, there is a minimum cap of 19.99% for cash advances; so no matter how low the Prime Rate falls (the APR is tied to the Prime Rate), the interest rate will not go below the minimum cap.
Therefore, those who plan to pay in full each month (to avoid finance charges) and will use the card frequently for Hawaiian Airlines ticket purchases (to earn additional points), will benefit most from what the Hawaiian Airlines Platinum Visa® Card has to offer.
