| Card Review: |
The US Airways Dividend Miles Visa® Gold Card, issued by Bank of America, is designed for those with good credit who travel frequently via US Airways.
Through the airline reward program, cardholders earn one mile for every dollar spent on the card, which can be redeemed towards free travel on US Airways. 7,000 bonus miles are applied to the account with their first purchase and up to 75,000 miles can be earned per year (25,000 more than the classic card). Accumulated miles do not expire as long as there is activity on the account within a three-year period.
In addition to the reward program, cardholders can expect common gold card benefits offered by Bank of America that include up to $500,000 in travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, various travel and emergency assistance services, extended warranty services and online account access.
With regard to other airline reward cards, however, this gold card does not offer any extraordinary benefits or services to cardholders, nor does it offer additional miles for selected purchases or services, which may be a slight disappointment.
There is a low introductory offer that applies to purchases and balance transfers for six months. Once the introductory offer has expired, the rate for purchases and balance transfers is about average for a reward card (though not ideal for those who plan to carry a balance). The annual fee is slightly high, although not outrageous for a gold airline reward card. There is also a minimum cap of 19.99% for cash advances; so no matter how low the Prime Rate falls (the APR is tied to the Prime Rate), the interest rate will not go below the minimum cap.
Therefore, those who frequently fly with US Airways, plan to pay in full each month (to avoid finance charges), and will be able to redeem a free ticket within a two-year period (due to the annual fee of $70), will benefit most from what the US Airways Dividend Miles Visa® Gold Card has to offer.
Those with very good credit may want to consider the platinum credit card, which offers additional benefits but with a higher annual fee. |
