The US Airways Dividend Miles Visa® Platinum Card, issued by Bank of America, is designed for those with very good credit who travel frequently via US Airways.
Through the airline reward program, cardholders earn one mile for every dollar spent on the card and double miles when used for purchases of US Airways goods and services. Earned miles can be redeemed toward free travel on US Airways. Their first purchase will result in 10,000 bonus miles applied to the account and there is no maximum amount of miles that can be earned per year (both the gold and classic card have yearly limits). Accumulated miles do not expire as long as there is activity on the account within a three-year period.
In addition to the reward program, cardholders can expect a variety of platinum benefits offered by Bank of America that include up to $1,000,000 in travel accident insurance, various travel and emergency assistance services, a yearly $99 domestic companion ticket (good for up to two friends or family members), earnings of preferred miles for spending exceeding $25,000 per year, and online account access. A 1.9% introductory rate is also offered on balance transfers and purchases during the first six months. (See website for additional benefits offered.)
The interest rate applied to purchases is reasonable for a reward card, though not ideal for those who plan to carry a balance. The annual fee is high ($40 more than the classic card and $20 more than the gold card), though not outrageous for a platinum airline reward card. There is a minimum cap of 19.99% for cash advances; so no matter how low the Prime Rate falls (the APR is tied to the Prime Rate), the interest rate will not go below the minimum cap.
Therefore, those who frequently fly with US Airways, plan to pay in full each month (to avoid finance charges), and will be able to redeem a free ticket within a two-year period taking advantage of the additional benefits offered (due to it's annual fee of $90), will benefit most from what the US Airways Dividend Miles Visa® Platinum Card has to offer.
